The Friday Fun: 20 November 2015

I would never be so bold as to tell you what to love, but these things-

a shared smile, a perfectly flipped omelette, the first restful night between newly laid bedsheets, the sated stillness after a bout of raucous laughter, the mumbled ‘hey’ from a sleep-warmed lover, the first hiss-crack of good alcohol being poured on ice cubes

-are all good things, things you should like and cultivate as often as possible, but particularly when the twin terrors of weekdays and work hours abate.

It’s the weekend, glow growers, and here are some other good things help you get into it.

  1. This song, Sorry, by Justin Beiber who has grown up so it’s totally okay to like his music- I checked with all the relevant authorities and you’re good, I promise. This tune is a banger and impossible to listen to without dancing. Here he is doing it live, chill-style, with the Roots.

2. This ridiculously perfect quote on commitment by Anne Morris:

The irony of commitment is that it’s deeply liberating — in work, in play, in love. The act frees you from the tyranny of your internal critic, from the fear that likes to dress itself up and parade around like rational hesitation. To commit is to remove your head as the barrier to your life.

P.S. I’m told this quote is often found on Starbucks cups. How on earth do they get the whole thing to fit?! Also, how awful that this wise woman, who probably has done an achieved a lot more than buying coffee, is described as “Anne Morris, Starbucks Customer” whenever people try and attribute this quote. These are all asides anyway, this quote is amazing and true and one of the few ‘famous quotes’ out there worth memorizing.

3. This inspiring news story, about ‘Raven’ , a 63 year old man who has run 8 miles every day for the last 40 years, a distance which is, wait for it, about halfway to the bloody Moon. He says: “Three doctors told me to quit 20 years ago,” he laughs.  “So much for them.  I don’t know if they’re still alive.” Amazing.

4. This live performance by the She of Shes, of her newest new track While We Were Young. Something we humans did clearly pleased the Lord because He gave us Adele.

This week’s featured image, from,  is of some pancakes topped with bacon and chilli. I know right? I’m going to try the recipe this weekend, which you can find here.
